From research to prototype testing in 5 days: How can we create digital support for elderly people with fragile health living at home?
The challenge:
More and more care takes place in the elderly person's home. Housing is generally important for people's identity and well-being, and for older people a supportive environment is particularly important. When the accommodation can no longer meet important needs, different decisions must be made. It may be about increased service, housing adaptation or other forms of housing. Although most elderly people want to stay at home, they often lack the information to be involved in important decisions concerning their own lives. How can we, with the help of digital tools, help them become more involved and support them in decisions about housing?
This design sprint is part of the international collaboration project COORDINATE, where Dalarna University leads the work on this issue.
The aim is to develop a version of a health and activity platform that can support shared decision-making through a co-creative process with older people, relatives, healthcare professionals, people with interest and knowledge of digital technology, students and other stakeholders.
A creative way of working where participants with different roles and backgrounds work together often produces the best ideas and the most interesting solutions. Your experience and knowledge are therefore extremely valuable.
What is a 5 day design sprint?
A 5 day sprint is a focused process where teams go from investigating the challenge to doing user tests in 5 days. It is a well-documented model, which was developed by Google Ventures. This sprint is a more user-centered version of the original, where greater focus is on the user's needs using design thinking.
How does it happen?
You can participate in three ways:
- You are assigned to a work group with other individuals with different skills where you work together (digitally) as a team.
- As a team. Perhaps you are a group from a business or organization where you have an interest in participating as a team. You can still include more individuals in your group if desired.
- You can also participate as a team where you only work together within the group.
As a participant, you will have access to a guide, materials and digital tools for each day and we will also be available for support.
Each day means a total of about two hours of committed time (Collection in the morning and Q&A in the afternoon). After that, it is up to each working group how the day is laid out, however, we recommend at least 2-3 hours/day to be able to follow the different parts of the sprint (research, generate ideas, create, build, test). The week ends with user tests of the prototypes that have been developed.
The sprint runs during week 8 (February 22-26, 2021). Participation takes place entirely digitally and you therefore need to have access to your own computer and internet.
- Here there is an opportunity to take part in new methodology that can be applied in your own business after the sprint for service development, e.g.
- Opportunity to try a new approach as the sprint is carried out digitally and with the help of digital tools
- Opportunity to make new contacts with interesting partners.
- Opens up to new ideas and business opportunities. Here is the opportunity to apply for support for further development of these via DigitalWell's innovation support and Dalarna Science Park.
